Best Of January '14 - Gig Guide

Ok, ok, so it's half way through January already... But hey it's the new year - it's been hard enough to keep functioning like a real human being throughout the day, let alone getting to an acceptable level of energised and music happy (that's a thing, right?) to go galavanting out to gigs! So, now that we can take the first half of January, sweep it under the rug, hide it under the duvet, or do whatever you need to do to move on, and lets focus on cramming our ears full of beautiful sounds for the rest of the month! Yes!

Here's our guide to Bristol Whipped's picks from this month's music scene:
- Ultimate Power Club Night
Jan 17th: The Fleece, 11pm
Ok, so not officially a gig, but as far as we're concerned it's the most fun looking club night this month! Lets just admit it - you don't always want to listen to cool new music, sometimes you just need to get a little emotional and to sing about heartache whilst gesticulating wildly! (Plus it's only £4adv - bargainous for this very long January!)

- Bristol Acoustic Music Festival Launch
Jan 18th: Colston Hall, 3pm
The launch of 2014's festival sees live music from Darren Hodge (BBC 2's Young Folk Award finalist), Brian Inglis and Sally (Funkinsteins) Wyatt. This free afternoon will set the scene for the biggest year yet for Bristol Acoustic Music Festival, which will be taking place in May later this year.

- Peggy Sue
Jan 21st: Rise, 7pm
Performing an intimate live show on stage at Rise record store, Peggy Sue will no doubt be giving us a sneak peak at some treats from upcoming album 'Choir of Echoes'. Now Bristol Whipped has to admit - we're a bit late to the party with Peggy Sue, but now that we've been introduced we'll definitely be there giving our ears a gentle massage. Lovely stuff.

- Wonka-Vision Presents: Chinese Man (live)
Jan 25th: Motion, 10pm
Funk, dub, reggae, jazz - what more could you ask for from French hip-hop collective Chinese Man! So you think you and your friends don't agree on what music you like? Listen to Chinese Man and think again - this is the music to bring us all together as one, maybe, or just a great sound that people with ears will enjoy!
If you haven't danced around in your pants to 'Artichaut' then this is your chance to do so! (Although we recommend more than pants for a trip to Motion...)
The stars tell me that this has pretty much sold out, but there will be a few tickets on the door - so snap them up quickly!

Once again, sorry it's just a small selection of delights from our local music scene - let us know if there are any gems we've missed out!

If you want tickets or any more information on these gigs, or any others happening in Bristol, make sure you check out Bristol Ticket Shop or Ents 24!
